About the event
The Amargosa River Basin is renowned for its biodiversity because of its springs, seeps, and shallow groundwater table, having the largest concentration of endemic species in the United States-- 17 of which are rare and endangered plants. These tough plants grow in alkali wetlands where the soil is salty, the heat extreme, and rainfall sparse. Morrigan DeVito, Restoration & Plant Stewardship Coordinator of Amargosa Conservancy, will take you on a journey through the Amargosa River Basin's alkali wetlands to explore the unique adaptations of both rare and common plants. She will also share some of the exciting, groundbreaking work being done to restore these habitats and conserve these plants thanks to a grant Amargosa Conservancy, in collaboration with other partners like the California Botanic Garden, received from the State of CA Wildlife Conservation Board.
