General (Botanical / Naturalist View)
Bahiopsis parishii (formerly Viguiera parishii or V. deltoidea var. parishii) is an evergreen to semi-evergreen perennial shrub native to the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. A resilient desert species, it thrives in rocky washes and slopes up to 5,000 feet in elevation. Its rough, triangular leaves and grayish, hairy stems give it texture and contrast, while bright yellow, daisy-like flowers bloom profusely from late spring through fall—often longer with rainfall. Potentially toxic if eaten.
Designer (Landscape / Aesthetic View)
This compact, rounded shrub (2–4 ft tall and wide) provides long-lasting color and structure in desert and waterwise landscapes. Its vivid yellow blooms and silvery-green foliage pair beautifully with native grasses and cacti. Ideal for xeriscapes, pollinator gardens, and rock gardens, it serves as a cheerful mass planting, border accent, or erosion-control plant on slopes. Highly attractive to bees and butterflies.
Maintenance (Gardener / Care View)
Extremely low-maintenance and drought-tolerant once established. Requires full sun and well-drained soil—sandy, rocky, or loamy. Occasional deep watering in summer promotes extended bloom. Light pruning after flowering encourages denser growth and shape. Root-hardy to cold, it may die back after severe frost but resprouts in spring.
